My Story

In October 2025 I reached the ripe old age of 60. For my 60th year I have decided to partner with COCO, a wonderful charity that for the last 25 years has helped children across the globe, and is now working in East Africa.

I am planning a fully self supported brutal road bike adventure from the North Cape at the top of Norway to Tarifa, the most southerly point in Spain (The North Cape Tarifa. My 7,500km event will require me to climb over 80,000 metres including some iconic climbs such as Col d’Iseran, Col du Télégraphe, Col du Galibier and Pico del Veleta, the highest pass in Europe. 3 of the days in the Alps will require me to climb 10,000 or more than Mount Everest.

Targetting 210km per day this brutal route will take about 5 weeks but who knows what challenges will appear along the way.

My hope is to get there and, in recognition of the start of my 60s, to raise £60,000 to help COCO continue to support the lives of children in south east Africa. Already, 17 wonderful volunteers have comitted to raise over £20,000.

I hope you'll give what you can and share the journey with me.

About COCO

COCO is an international children's charity based in Newcastle upon Tyne and working in East Africa. Working in partnership with local organisations, we develop community-owned and operated schools, which provide quality education in a sustainable way. Alongside supporting the development of schools, we support parents and caregivers in the community to increase their income to be able to better meet the basic needs of their children. We do this by providing Sustainable Agriculture Training, which teaches simple, environmentally-friendly farming techniques that protect the delicate local ecosystems whilst increasing crop yields, and providing Small Loans, which are microfinance loans intended to support local entrepreneurs to set up their own business and generate their own income. From the outset, all COCO projects are designed to be self-sustaining so that individuals and communities are empowered to lift themselves out of poverty and create brighter futures for themselves and their families.
